Harry Potter Successor Found
Thursday, Jun 28, 2007 at 10:48am
Barry Cunningham, the Bloomsbury editor who first saw the potential in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter books, claims to have struck gold a second time with Tunnels, a young adult novel about a boy archaeologist who finds himself drawn into a world of adventure after digging a hole.
"I knew from page one that Harry Potter was magic," says Cunningham. "Reading Tunnels gave me the same thrill, discovering a world of imagination just beyond our ordinary lives."
Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams, the author of the book, originally self-published an edition of the novel that apparently sold out within hours of hitting the bookshelves. No word yet on when it will be released in North America.

Marvel Studios have announced that plans are underway to produce a Broadway play based on popular superhero Spider-Man. The play will be produced by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor with U2's Bono and The Edge providing new music and lyrics. This will be the first time a Marvel character has appeared in a Broadway production.
According to David Maisel, chairman of Marvel Studios
Marvel continues to look to every entertainment medium to support the enduring popularity of our Super Heroes, and we are thrilled with the talent on board. The all star creative team -- led by Julie Taymor, Bono and The Edge -- is second to none and we are certain this project will delight fans of Spider-Man and new audiences alike.
One can only hope it lives up to the bar set by Evil Dead The Musical.

The Times has posted Ian Rankin's forward to the new Rough Guide to Crime Fiction. Good stuff.
I continue to find the crime novel the perfect vehicle for an unflinching discussion of contemporary issues. After all, the detective has an “all-areas pass” to every aspect of the contemporary urban scene, and this is a way for the crime writer to take the reader into forbidden territoryCategories: buzz
