Canada’s New Food Guide: Protein on the Plate.
Canada has a new, and very different Food Guide. Gone are the familiar four food groups and serving sizes, replaced with a healthy plate divided into three food ‘groupings’ and suggestions on how to eat. One major change is the advice to “choose protein foods that come from plants more often”. We will be discussing what’s new with the Food Guide and tips for following the Guide, with special emphasis on the protein part of the plate.
The moderator is Dr. Martin Scanlon, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, University of Manitoba. The panelists are Dr. Joyce Slater, Associate Professor, Dept. of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences, University of Manitoba; Dr. James House, Professor and Head, Dept. of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences, University of Manitoba; and Mr. Darren Fife, Human Ecology Teacher Candidate, Faculty of Education, University of Manitoba.
