Bob Haverluck -- Book Launch
Wednesday May 31 2017 7:00 pm, Winnipeg, Grant Park in the Atrium
Launch of When God Was Flesh and Wild: Stories in Defense of the Earth (Liturgical Press).
With a fierce whimsy, Haverluck's When God was Flesh and Wild: Stories in Defense of the Earth retells biblical narratives seeking the well being of the watery, animally earth. Sometimes harsh, always hopeful, this book joins in the good troublemaking that opposes the wounding of the earth.
Fifty coloured drawings illustrate and tease out the four stories: "The King of Bigger and More"; "God is Flesh and Wild"; "Little Sparrows See God Fall"; "Jailbird John and the Choirs of the Creatures".
Storyteller Bob Haverluck's comic art has appeared in Harper's, Border Crossings, Prairie Fire, New Statesman, etc. as well as in his earlier books including Love Your Enemies and Other Neighbours. Haverluck has long shared leadership in conferences on the themes of art, social change, and comedy in Cape Town, Chicago, Toronto, Vancouver, Dauphin, and beyond. He'll be launching this book tonight with the help of musician and actor friends.
