Tilly and the Lost Fairy Tales by Anna James (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

Saturday, Mar 14, 2020 at 1:41pm

Tilly Pages is a bookwanderer; she can travel inside books, and even talk to the characters she meets there. But Tilly’s powers are put to the test when fairytales start leaking book magic and causing havoc. On a wintery visit to Paris, Tilly and her best friend Oskar bravely bookwander into the land of fairytales to find that characters are getting lost, stories are all mixed-up, and mysterious plot holes are opening without warning. Can Tilly work out who, or what, is behind the chaos so everyone gets their happily-ever-after?

Tilly and the Lost Fairy Tales is a lovely book that I would recommend from ages 8-12. It is very descriptive and makes you feel like you are in the book. It gives a nice twist at the end which leads to not putting the book down, it hooks you in. Tilly is a well-formed character that you can imagine in your head and make connections with. The book has a unique style by having characters from other books (Anne of Green Gables, Alice and Wonderland and Harry Potter) become part of this one. At the beginning of the book Tilly seems just like a normal character, but deeper in the book Tilly becomes adventures, daring, fearless and a very amazing character.

I hope to find more books like this one in the future, ones that are awesome.
