2017 Poetry Awards shortlists

Last week, the League of Canadian Poets announced the 2017 Poetry Awards shortlists for the Gerald Lampert and Pat Lowther Memorial Awards, the Raymond Souster Award, and the finalists for the 2017 Sheri-D Wilson Golden Beret Award, each of which honours a specific form of Canadian poetry published last year.

Gerald Lampert Memorial Award
which recognizes the best first book of poetry published by a Canadian in the preceding year, and carries a prize of $1,000.

Pat Lowther Memorial Award
given for a book of poetry by a Canadian woman published in the preceding year, and carries a $1,000 prize.

100 Days by Juliane Okot Bitek (University of Alberta Press) • Float by Anne Carson (Knopf) • Lady Crawford by Julie Cameron Gray (Palimpsest Press) • Let the Empire Down by Alexandra Oliver (Biblioasis) • Heaven’s Thieves by Sue Sinclair (Brick Books) • The Description of the World by Johanna Skibsrud (Wolsak & Wynn)

 

Raymond Souster Award
given for a book of poetry by a League of Canadian Poets member published in the preceding year, and carries a $1,000 prize.

Sheri-D Wilson Golden Beret Award
which honours a spoken word poet "who has made a substantial contribution to the development of spoken word, through the originality and excellence of his or her own writing/performance works, and through involvement in and contributions to the expansion of the spoken word community."
