The Giller Prize 2018 shortlist

The finalists for this year's Giller Prize, which recognizes excellence in Canadian fiction, have been announced:

An excellent selection of contenders, indeed, and we extend congratulations to each. We'll find out which one of them is the winner on November 19th, 2018.

If you are in Winnipeg, we hope you'll join us to celebrate the winner on November 19th at the Giller Light Bash. Listen to local advocates from the community present each Giller shortlist nominated book, dine on a delicious meal from Prairie Ink Restaurant, and watch the proceedings on television from Toronto. Giller Prize 2018 longlist announced

The longlist for this year's Scotiabank Giller Prize has been unveiled.

The Giller Prize's mission is to recognize excellence in Canadian fiction, and thus every year its list of candidates is full of phenomenal talent from new and veteran authors alike. The 2018 list, as you are about to see, is no exception:

Congratulations to all who made the list! The finalists will be announced on October 1st, 2018, and the winner announced at a gala on November 19th, 2018.

Hugo Awards 2018 winners

The winners of this year's Hugo Awards, which honour the best in science fiction and fantasy writing of the past year, were announced at Worldcon 76 in California this past weekend.

NK Jemisin has won Best Novel for the third time in three years, this time for her novel The Stone Sky — which means Jemisin has won a Hugo for each of the three books in her Broken Earth trilogy. Meanwhile, Martha Wells' All Systems Red, published by TOR, won Best Novella, and Monstress Volume 2: The Blood, written by Marjorie M. Liu and illustrated by Sana Takeda, won Best Graphic Story.

Michael Ondaatje wins Golden Man Booker Prize

Michael Ondaatje has been awarded the Golden Man Booker Prize for his novel, The English Patient, making him the greatest-ever winner of the Man Booker Prize.

The Golden Man Booker Prize was made to celebrate the Man Booker's 50th anniversary. All previous 51 Man Booker winners were eligible for the Golden prize, and the shortlist, which consisted of five finalists, one from each decade of the Prize's history, was determined by a panel of judges. Ultimately the winner — Mr. Ondaatje — was decided by popular vote.

The Manitoba Book Awards 2018 winners

The winners for this year's Manitoba Book Awards were announced during a ceremony at the University of Manitoba this past weekend.

The Awards celebrate the best literature written by Manitoban authors in the previous year. There are a number of categories, each of which celebrates a different aspect of Manitoba writing, and the winners are selected by a panel of judges.
