Canada Reads 2019 shortlist

The final contenders for this year's Canada Reads challenge have been unveiled! They include:
- Homes: A Refugee Story by Abu Bakr al Rabeeah with Winnie Yeung; to be defended by musician Chuck Comeau.
- Suzanne by Anaïs Barbeau-Lavalette, translated by Rhonda Mullins; to be defended by actor Yanic Truesdale.
- Brother by David Chariandy; to be defended by actress Lisa Ray.
- By Chance Alone: A Remarkable True Story Of Courage And Survival At Auschwitz by Max Eisen; to be defended by WWF Vice Chair and TV host Ziya Tong.
- The Woo-Woo: How I Survived Ice Hockey, Drug Raids, Demons, And My Crazy Chinese Family by Lindsay Wong; to be defended by fashion expert and TV host Joe Zee.
Organized by the CBC, Canada Reads is an annual "battle of the books" that strives to determine which is "the one book Canadians should read right now" based on current events. Each of the shortlisted titles will be defended by a celebrity personality, listed above, during live debates hosted by Ali Hassan on CBC Radio and television March 25-28, 2019.

The longlist for this year's Canada Reads challenge have been revealed.
Organized by the CBC, Canada Reads is an annual "battle of the books" that strives to determine which is "the one book Canadians should read right now" based on current events. This year's particular theme is "One Book To Move You" — thus the debates will consider which of the finalists is the most thought-provoking, the most inspiring, and the most emotionally gripping.

The finalists for this year's Governor General's Literary Awards have been unveiled.
The Awards, administered by the Canada Council for the Arts, celebrate the best in Canadian writing, and are presented in multiple categories in both English and French. The winners each receive a prize of $25,000, and each finalist receives $1,000.

The winners will be announced on October 30th, 2018, at a special celebration at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

The finalists for this year's Giller Prize, which recognizes excellence in Canadian fiction, have been announced:
- Songs for the Cold of Heart by Eric Dupont
- Washington Black by Esi Edugyan
- French Exit by Patrick deWitt
- Motherhood by Sheila Heti
- An Ocean of Minutes by Thea Lim
An excellent selection of contenders, indeed, and we extend congratulations to each. We'll find out which one of them is the winner on November 19th, 2018.

The longlist for this year's Scotiabank Giller Prize has been unveiled.
The Giller Prize's mission is to recognize excellence in Canadian fiction, and thus every year its list of candidates is full of phenomenal talent from new and veteran authors alike. The 2018 list, as you are about to see, is no exception:
