To much disdain, 'Persepolis' pulled from curriculum

In a move that's been dubbed "Orwellian", Marjane Satrapi's critically acclaimed graphic memoir Persepolis was recently banned from Chicago classrooms and school libraries. Persepolis, which was originally published in France in 2000, details Satrapi's childhood surrounding the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, followed by her adolescence studying in Vienna, and her return to Iran as a young adult.

Breast Friends Cookbook is a Gourmand Awards 2013 Winner!

Congratulations to the Breast Friends, whose Breast Wishes For the Men in Our Lives won a 2013 Gourmand Award in the category Charity/Fundraising Cookbook: North America.

This group of 10 women from Foam Lake, SK have raised nearly $1.4 million for cancer causes with their series of self-published cookbooks.

Les Recettes du Kiosque de Limonade by Katrine Paradis and Marie-Jose Morin (Canada) and The Microsoft Cookbook (USA) were the other winners in this category. The Gourmand Awards were handed out on February 23rd in Paris. Canadian chef Martin Picard's Au Pied de Cochon: Sugar Shack was honoured as Cookbook of the Year.
