Wheel of Time series. His widow and editor, Harriet McDougal, chose , bestselling author of the Mistborn series, to complete the book. The size of the volume was such that it could not be contained in a single book, making The Gathering Storm the first of three novels that will make up A Memory of Light. This short sequence will complete the struggle against the Shadow, bringing to a close a journey that began almost twenty years ago and marking the conclusion of The Wheel of Time, the pre-eminent fantasy epic of our era.

Shakespeare had something completely different in mind when he wrote the above, but it nicely fits the feeling of readers when their favourite author's new book is delayed. I found myself wondering, last night, just who it is that suffers the most when a book doesn't arrive as expected.

Crime legend Guardian story on literary digressions. His "Flitwick Parable" from The Maltese Falcon was held up as a nearly perfect example.
was recently featured in aIn a scant three pages, The Maltese Falcon, but for the remainder of the novel the reader is left with the sense that anything can happen.
Sam Spade tells the story of real estate agent Flitwick who leaves his office for lunch, and never returns. When Flitwick is found, he is living under an assumed name, and leading a new life, much like his old, but with a new wife, house and responsibilities.
