Scotiabank Giller Prize 2016 Longlist

The longlist for the 2016 Scotiabank Giller Prize was announced this past week, comprising 12 Canadian writers all vying to win the $100,000 award. The list was selected by a panel of five judges, who will pare their selections down to a six-book shortlist to be announced on Monday Setpember 26th.

The 2016 Giller longlist is:

Catherine Leroux will be reading from The Party Wall at Thin Air 2016: The Winnipeg International Writers Festival. The 2015 Giller Light Bash

Join us at Prairie Ink Restaurant in Winnipeg for the annual Giller Light Bash on November 10.

Tickets are $54.00 plus GST, and are available at Prairie Ink Restaurant or online (scroll down through the Classes list to November 10th).

A fund-raiser for Frontier College, McNally Robinson Booksellers has been hosting Winnipeg’s Giller Light Bash since 2005. Enjoy a special dinner while attendees listen to local advocates for the nominated books and then watch the Scotiabank Giller Prize broadcast on our big screen.

The 2014 Scotiabank Giller Prize, recognizing excellence in Canadian fiction, unveiled its longlist earlier today:

   > Tell by Frances Itani (HarperCollins Canada)
   > Watch How We Walk by Jennifer LoveGrove (ECW Press)
   > Us Conductors by Sean Michaels (Random House Canada)
   > Moving Forward Sideways Like a Crab by Shani Mootoo (Doubleday Canada)
   > The Girl Who Was Saturday Night by Heather O'Neill (HarperCollins Canada)
   > Paradise and Elsewhere by Kathy Page (John Metcalf Books/Biblioasis)
   > My October by Claire Holden Rothman (Penguin Canada)
   > All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews (Knopf Canada)
   > The Ever After of Ashwin Rao by Padma Viswanathan (Random House Canada)

The shortlist will be announced on October 6th, and the winner presented on November 10th.

Celebrate the Giller Prize and the winner with us inside of Prairie Ink! On November 10th we'll be hosting our annual Giller Light Bash, with a live feed of the awards showing inside the restaurant.

Tickets be will available for purchase at Prairie Ink Restaurant starting on September 17th. They are $40 each. Call (204-975-2659) or visit the restaurant to purchase. Proceeds from the dinner will go to support literacy programs at Frontier College.
