Welcome Back to the Community Classroom

We’re excited to announce that our Community Classroom is once again open for registrations! Starting in September 2020, we will be offering a mix of online and socially distanced in-person classes.

Online classes will take place over Zoom video conferencing and maintain the interactive learning environment of our physical classroom, which you can now experience from the comfort and safety of your own home. PLUS, you can attend from anywhere on the planet — all you need is a computer and stable internet connection.

February is a month of many meanings—I Love to Read, Black History, Valentine's Day—and our Community Classroom has dozens of new classes that will help you get the most out of this short, but busy month. I Love to Read

• Aspects of Plath—Looking at new material, consider Plath as a hopeful and complex figure who produced some of the most important poetry from the second half of the 20th century. (Starts Saturday, February 15)

Black History Month

• Slavery: From the Transatlantic Trade to the Contemporary World—Examine the concept of slavery, the Transatlantic Slave Trade and how slavery has transformed itself in our contemporary world. (Starts Thursday, February 6)
• Preaching to the Choir: The Life and Works of R. Nathaniel Dett—Discover the music of this Canadian-born black composer who combined his musical gifts with an endless thirst for knowledge. (Wednesday, February 12)

Friday Nights Are For Jazz!

Looking for something different to kick off your weekend? McNally Robinson Booksellers has partnered with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra (WJO) on two classes in March and April—both of which will be taught by professor, musician and composer Sean Irvine. 

Each class is a unique opportunity to gain a greater appreciation of jazz music. Click on the titles below to learn more about and/or register for each session.

• Lady Soul: The Story of Aretha Franklin (March 13)—There's a story behind each of this great singer, songwriter and activist's monumental achievements.
• The Lick (April 3 & 26)—A composition and arranging workshop where participants help build the framework to a new composition, AND the cost includes a ticket to the WJO's Carpathian Blues concert on April 26.
