2017 Poetry Awards shortlists

Last week, the League of Canadian Poets announced the 2017 Poetry Awards shortlists for the Gerald Lampert and Pat Lowther Memorial Awards, the Raymond Souster Award, and the finalists for the 2017 Sheri-D Wilson Golden Beret Award, each of which honours a specific form of Canadian poetry published last year.

The winners of the 2016 Griffin Poetry Prize, Canada's largest and most generous award for poetry, were announced this week.
Norman Dubie won the Griffin International Prize for his collection The Quotations of Bone, and The Griffin Canadian Prize for Poetry went to Liz Howard for the Infinite Citizen of the Shaking Tent. They each receive $65,000 in prize money.

2016 Poetry Award Shortlists

In conjunction with National Poetry Month, the League of Canadian Poets has announced their 2016 shortlists for three different awards. The Gerald Lampert Memorial Award recognizes the best first book of poetry published by a Canadian, while the Pat Lowther Memorial Award considers books of poetry published by Canadian women. The Raymond Souster Award is open to books of poetry by any League of Canadian Poets member.
Winnipeg's Rosanna Deerchild has been shortlisted for the Pat Lowther Memorial Award for her 2015 collection calling down the sky. The winners will be announced June 18. See the full list of nominees after the break:

The finalists of this year's Griffin Poetry Prize, "the world’s largest prize for a first edition single collection of poetry written in English", have been announced.
The international prize shortlist includes:
- Wang Xiaxoniz (poet) & Eleanor Goodman (translator) for Something Crosses My Mind
- Wioletta Greg (poet) & Marek Kazmierski (translator) for Finite Formulae & Theories of Chance
- Michael Longley for The Stairwell
- Spencer Reece for The Road to Emmaus
And the finalists of the Canadian prize include:
- Shane Book for Congotronic
- Jane Munro for Blue Sonoma
- Russell Thornton for The Hundred Lives

The two winners will each receive $65,000, while each shortlisted poet will receive $10,000. The international and Canadian prize winners will be announced on June 4th, 2015, and an anthology of works by all of the shortlisted poets is forthcoming from House of Anansi Press.

At an awards gala this evening, the two winners of the 2014 Griffin Poetry Prize were announced!
The International winner is American poet Brenda Hillman, who won for her collection Seasonal Works with Letters on Fire. Meanwhile, the Canadian winner was poet Anne Carson for her collection Red Doc>. Along with the honour of the award, each winner was presented with a $65,000 prize.
Congratulations, Ms. Hillman and Ms. Carson!
