Dresden Files Comic Announced

In his continuing quest to bring his creation Harry Dresden to every possible medium, author Jim Butcher has signed a deal with Dabel Brothers Productions to create a comic book based on his popular Dresden Files series.

Book prices are not in crisis

Current book pricing in Canada is actually a huge good news story for readers.

The exchange rate is raising a lot of hackles, and booksellers are at least as angry as book buyers. Not only are we taking flak from customers because prices are not dropping fast enough, we’re enduring revenue deflation as prices do fall.

And they are falling. Long term, the news on pricing is actually wonderful for Canadian readers and, by extension, for the literate culture we like to think we’re promulgating here in Canada.

Penguins, Toni Morrison and Harry Potter most challenged books of 2006

Topping the list was And Tango Makes Three, a tale of two male penguins parenting an egg from a mixed-sex penguin. Toni Morrison's novels Beloved and The Bluest Eye also made the list, but the most challenged books of the 21st century remain J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels

Horror in Winnipeg

The good news for Canadian speculative fiction fans just keeps coming. It was previously announced that the 2009 World Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention would be held in Montreal, and now Winnipeg will host the World Horror Convention that same year.
