Royal Winnipeg Ballet: Nutcracker, December 19-29

This December, Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet will be performing the holiday classic Nutcracker. The show runs from December 19th to the 29th, and you can find all of the details (as well as purchase tickets) right on the RWB's website.

You can also win a pair of tickets inside of out Grant Park store!

Enter your ballot in the dropbox in-store, which can be found near the mall entrance and the travel books section, and you will be entered to win the tickets. The raffle will take place and the winner chosen on December 10th, so hurry down to put in your name!

Are you maddly excited for Margaret Atwood's MaddAddam?

Margaret Atwood has been a favourite at McNally Robinson Booksellers for a very long time. Which means that any time we get wind of a new book of hers, many of our booksellers become giddy with anticipation. Especially when it's a title as big as MaddAddam, Ms. Atwood's newest novel that will be released on August 27th. MaddAddam ties together the bestselling Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood and brings the trilogy to a close. You can learn more about MaddAddam by watching the book's official trailer.

To celebrate the novel's release, we've got some presents to give away: two signed copies of MaddAddam, graciously provided to us by Ms. Atwood and her publisher, McClelland & Stewart. We would like for you to own one of these presents.

The contest is simple:
Starting today, go on Twitter and tweet at us (@McNallyRobinson for Winnipeg entrants, @McNallySK for Saskatoon entrants) the hashtag #MaddAddamMRB. On the day of the novel's release, we will choose one random entrant for each store, and those two people will each win a signed book!

As with any contest, there are a few fine details that need to be covered:

• Each of our stores will be giving away one signed copy of MaddAddam, so there are two separate prizes to be won.
• Local residents only may enter the contest. Prizes will not be shipped and must be retrieved in person by the winner at either our Saskatoon or Winnipeg store.
• Giveaway runs from August 20th until midday on August 27th. The winners will be announced in the afternoon on August 27th.
• Once the winners have been selected, they will be contacted directly via Twitter on how and when to pick up their prize.
• Please, only one tweet per person. Multiple tweets from the same person will be ignored. (Let's keep it nice, clean, and fair!)
• To be properly entered into the contest, the hashtag you send to us must precisely match the contest tag. Again, it's #MaddAddamMRB.
• If you have any questions about the contest, contact us directly on Twitter.
• Don't have a Twitter account? It's easy to make one. Once you're signed up, be sure to follow us to stay in touch and get notified about our store news as well as future contests.

The contest is open to any Twitter user, so let your friends and family know! Invite them to follow us on Twitter and to participate in the contest. Just keep in mind that prizes must be claimed in person, so only residents of Saskatoon and Winnipeg and the surrounding areas may enter.

Whether or not you enter our Twitter contest, it might be a good idea to make a pre-order for MaddAddam to reserve your own copy on the day of its release. Contact your nearest McNally Robinson bookstore to put your name down for a copy. It might interest you to know we'll be selling the book at 30% off the standard retail price.

50 Shades! The Musical: Enter to win

50 Shades! The Musical is coming to town.

A parody of the popular Fifty Shades of Grey book series, the musical runs from September 5th to 7th at the Centennial Concert Hall. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.

...or they can be won right in our store! Stop by our Winnipeg store to cast a ballot and enter to win two tickets see 50 Shades! The Musical. The ballot box is located beneath our 50 Shades of Grey display (as seen in the photo to the right), which can be found near the customer service ring in the centre of the store.

The contest closes on August 29th, so cast your name in before the month ends!

Want to help design a book? Of course you do!

It's difficult work designing a cover for a book (something our self-publishing staff can attest to). Sometimes it's challenging finding the right imagery and coming up with an appropriate design. On the other hand, sometimes there are plenty of ideas to work with, the result being multiple fantastic cover designs -- and the tough decisions needed to narrow down the selection.

Such is the case with the upcoming release from Penguin Canada, Ghost Moth by Michele Forbes. Their graphic designers have come up with three< unique cover designs for the novel, and they need help deciding which one to put on the finished book. Penguin Canada wants your input.
