Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction 2016 winner

The winner of this year's Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction is Irish author Lisa McInerney, who won for her debut novel The Glorious Heresies.
Along with the honour of the award, McInerney received a £30,000 cash prize as well as the Baileys Women's Prize bronze figurine, ‘Bessie’.

The winners of the 28th annual Lambda Literary Awards, which honour the best LGBTQ books of 2015, were announced earlier this week.
Chinelo Okparanta won the Best Lesbian Fiction Award for her novel, Under the Udala Trees, and the Best Gay Fiction Award went to Hasan Namir for his novel, God in Pink. Meanwhile the Best Bisexual Fiction was awarded to Anna North for The Life and Death of Sophie Stark, and Roz Kaveney won Best Transexual Fiction for Tiny Pieces of Skull, or a Lesson in Manners.

The winners of the 2016 Griffin Poetry Prize, Canada's largest and most generous award for poetry, were announced this week.
Norman Dubie won the Griffin International Prize for his collection The Quotations of Bone, and The Griffin Canadian Prize for Poetry went to Liz Howard for the Infinite Citizen of the Shaking Tent. They each receive $65,000 in prize money.

Manitoba Book Awards 2016 winners

The winners of this year's Manitoba Book Awards were announced at a gala this Saturday, April 30th.
2015 and 2016 saw plenty of wonderful new Manitoba literature, and competition was fierce for this year's awards. Congratulations to all of the recipients, as well as those who made it onto the shortlist.
Of particular note are the recipients of the 2016 McNally Robinson Book Awards. Writer Julia Schettler and illustrator Sarah Neville won the McNally Robinson Books for Young People Award in the "younger" category for their book Fur Is Only Fur Deep, and in the "older" category the award went to Jodi Carmichael for her novel, Forever Julia. Meanwhile, the McNally Robinson Book of the Year Award went to Wab Kinew for his memoir, The Reason You Walk.
