Scotiabank Giller Prize 2016: Shortlist

The shortlist of six authors in line to win the 2016 Scotiabank Giller Prize was announced on September 26. This prize, celebrating high-caliber Canadian fiction, rewards the winning author with a lump sum of $100,000 as well as national literary recognition.

This year's shortlist includes:

These six selections will be narrowed down to one by a panel of five jurors, including esteemed Canadian author Lawrence Hill. The winner will be announced on Monday, November 7 at the Scotiabank Giller Prize Gala. The event will air on CBC and will be streamed live at CBCbooks.ca at 9 pm (10 AT/10:30 NT).

Finalists Announced for 2016 Rogers' Writers Trust Fiction Prize

The list of finalists for the 2016 Rogers' Writers Trust Fiction Prize was released on September 21.                                                                

This $25,000 prize is awarded annually to a standout Canadian novel or short story, as chosen by a panel of three judges from the literary community. This is the twentieth anniversary of the prize, which was created in 1997 by The Writers Trust of Canada, a charitable organization that strives to celebrate top-notch Canadian writing, and sponsored by Rogers Communications.

Man Booker Prize 2016: Shortlist

The Man Booker Prize 2016 Shortlist, released on September 13, is comprised of the following six titles:

This prize, created in 1969 with the purpose of bringing about the widest possible readership of literary fiction, rewards the winning author with a sum of £50,000 and a uniquely designed bound copy of their book. The winner will be selected from this shortlist and announced on October 25, 2016.

This year, two of the six shortlisted authors happen to hail from Canadian soil: David Szalay and Madeleine Thien.

Scotiabank Giller Prize 2016 Longlist

The longlist for the 2016 Scotiabank Giller Prize was announced this past week, comprising 12 Canadian writers all vying to win the $100,000 award. The list was selected by a panel of five judges, who will pare their selections down to a six-book shortlist to be announced on Monday Setpember 26th.

Man Booker Prize 2016: Longlist

The longlist for the £50,000 Man Booker Prize for Fiction was released on July 27. This prize, awarded for excellence in literary writing, was first introduced in 1969 and is open to authors on an international scale whose work is written originally in English and published in the United Kingdom.

This year's list of 13 outstanding books was chosen from 155 submissions published in the UK between October 1, 2015, and September 30, 2016.

The longlist, or 'Man Booker Dozen', includes the following 13 works:

A shortlist of 6 books will be chosen from this selection and announced on September 13, 2016. The winner will then be declared on October 25th at a formal gala in London.
