2017 Stephen Leacock Award for Humour shortlist

The finalists for the 2017 Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour have been announced.
The award, named after famous Canadian humourist Stephen Leacock, honours the greatest Canadian literature of the past year, and comes with a $15,000 prize.
Down from a longlist of eleven nominees, the finalists for this year's Leacock Medal are:
- Gary Barwin for Yiddish for Pirates, Random House Canada.
- Amy Jones for We’re All in This Together, McClelland & Stewart.
- Drew Hayden Taylor for Take Us to Your Chief And Other Stories, Douglas & McIntyre.
The winner will be announced and celebrated at an awards gala on Saturday, June 10, 2017.

At an awards gala held in Winnipeg's historic Fort Garry Hotel this past Saturday, the winners of the 29th annual Manitoba Book Awards were announced and celebrated.
The Awards, presented by the Manitoba Writers' Guild and made possible by sponsorships from government funding and many local businesses, honour books published in 2016 that were written by a Manitoba author, made by a Manitoba press, or with a focus on Manitoba content.

The shortlist for the 2017 Man Booker International Prize has been unveiled.
The prize honours the finest translated fiction from across the globe. Each author and translator on the shortlist receives £1,000 (about $1,280), while the winning author and translator share a £50,000 (about $64,070) prize.

The finalists for this year's Best Translated Book Award have been announced.
The award is divided into two categories, Fiction and Poetry, and honours the quality of the original book and the translation. The winners will be announced on Thursday, May 4th at a live event in New York City, and each winning author and translator will receive a $5,000 (US) prize.

The international and Canadian shortlists have been announced for the 2017 Griffin Poetry Prize.
The Griffin is the world’s largest prize for a first edition single collection of poetry written in or translated to English. Each of the seven finalists will receive $10,000, and the winners of each category, who will be named on June 8, 2017, will receive $65,000.
The shortlists are as follows:

• In Praise of Defeat by Abdellatif Laâbi, translated from the French by Donald Nicholson-Smith
• Falling Awake by Alice Oswald
• Say Something Back by Denise Riley
Canadian
• Injun by Jordan Abel
• Violet Energy Ingots by Hoa Nguyen
