Manitoba Book Awards 2021 Winners

The winners of the 2021 Manitoba Book Awards have been announced!

Today, the Manitoba Book Awards / Les Prix du livre du Manitoba coalition (Association of Manitoba Publishers, Manitoba Writers' Guild, Winnipeg Public Library, Winnipeg International Writers Festival) announced the recipients of 11 separate awards recognizing excellence in Manitoba writing, book design, publishing, and stories.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions an awards gala is impossible this year, so instead the Manitoba Book Awards is celebrating the winners online via their website and via social media. To join in, visit their Facebook Page and congratulate your favourite winners!

Saskatchewan Book Awards 2021: Shortlists

The shortlists for the 2021 Saskatchewan Book Awards have been announced! You can find all of the finalists after the jump below.

The awards are divided into several categories to celebrate the best Saskatchewan writing from the past year.

The awards are divided into eleven categories and showcase the very best in writing, editing, design, and publishing here in Manitoba.

Sadly the pandemic means that we cannot celebrate together at a gala, so instead the winners will be announced via media release and social media on Thursday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m.

Giller Prize 2020 shortlist

The shortlist for the 2020 Scotiabank Giller Prize has been announced. The entire list is comprised of great Canadian books but we are especially thrilled to see a Winnipeg finalist make the cut: David Bergen for his newest collection of stories, Here The Dark.

The 2020 finalists include:

  • Gil Adamson, for her novel Ridgerunner (Anansi Press)
  • David Bergen, for his short story collection Here The Dark (Biblioasis)
  • Shani Mootoo, for her novel Polar Vortex (Book*hug Press)
  • Emily St. John Mandel, for her novel The Glass Hotel (HarperCollins Publishers Ltd.)
  • Souvankham Thammavongsa, for her short story collection How To Pronounce Knife (McClelland & Stewart / Penguin Random House Canada)
