Montreal's recently shortlisted for the Arthur Ellis Award for best novel for her novel The Murder Stone, has also won an Agatha Award for The Cruellest Month. The Agathas, named for , celebrate the "traditional mystery", or works written in the tradition of the grand dame of crime.

The Mystery Writers of America have released the shortlists for the annual Edgar Awards, celebrating excellence in the field of crime writing. The Edgars are named after Edgar Allan Poe, whose tale "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is often credited as the first detective story. The award winners will be announced April 30th in New York City.
