Description

Eli is a young boy who finds out that he has cancer. Not knowing how to feel, his doctor tells him...

"There is a 'can' in cancer, so when your life seems kinda rough,
breathe in and out and clear your head and think about better stuff."

This creatively written book of hope follows Eli's journey through the eyes of a patient, parents, siblings, teachers, health care providers, and friends. A must read for all who are searching for their "CAN" in cancer.

About this Author

Julia Cook, M.S. is a national award-winning children's author, counselor, and parenting expert. She has presented in thousands of schools nationally and internationally, regularly speaks at education and counseling conferences, and has published children's books on a wide range of character and social development topics. The goal behind Cook's work is to actively involve young people in fun, memorable stories and teach them to become lifelong problem solvers. Inspiration for her books comes from working with children and carefully listening to counselors, parents, and teachers, in order to stay on top of needs in the classroom and at home. Cook has the innate ability to enter the worldview of a child through storybooks, giving children both the "what to say" and the "how to say it."

Allison Valentine is an artist and illustrator who spends her time creating fun and colorful artwork from her Connecticut art studio. She has illustrated multiple children's books, including several of Julia Cook's previous books, and has also received the AEP (Association for Educational Publishers) Distinguished Achievement Award.

Reviews

I am a St. Jude cancer survivor and my story helped create this book. I think this book will help others find their "CAN" in cancer.

This book would be great for explaining what I am going through to my friends and classmates. I am the "CAN" in cancer...

Eli

I am being treated for leukemia at Children's in Omaha, Nebraska. This book helped me to see that there really is a "CAN" in cancer. It also helped my family and friends understand what having cancer is really like!
