Description

Norbert is a "naumuh" and he and his classmates, Nelda, Buster, Tommy and Stewey enjoy eating everything with jelly beans on it!

One day, Norbert's teacher challenges his class to try something new. In order to encourage everyone to participate, the teacher continues to sweeten the pot. But when Norbert is less than eager to try something new, he experiences first-hand what it's like to be on the receiving end of peer pressure. His classmates continue to pressure Norbert to do what they want him to do.

Readers witness Norbert's internal deliberation as he struggles with whether or not to give into the pressure. He describes in detail how it feels to have his peer pressure gauge continue to rise! Norbert demonstrates to his classmates that if he is able to stay strong and let his inner voice shine, he will feel better about himself, and may avoid some hard to live with consequences!

Reviews

"Kids are faced with negative peer pressure all of the time. Julia's latest book helps kids understand that it's difficult, but okay, to say no! I've added this book to my toolkit to help teachers emphasize their role in directly teaching skills like resisting peer pressure to all of our kids and to recognize and help put a stop to negative peer pressure at school." - Courtney Frazier, Coordinator Behavior and Student Management Pendergast School District

"My son asks for me to read this to him. Often. He is gaining insights that peer pressure is common and that it?s herd to buck but doable. My son is in second grade and likes this book. I think it?s a good conversation starter and helps kids know they are not alone, everyone faces this at some point. I?m hoping it also reinforces that putting pressure on others is wrong." - mk, Amazon

"This book is a wonderful tool to talk about peer pressure! The book touches on many aspects of peer pressure. The teacher character in the story portrays a good roll where she knows the peer pressure is going to happen. The children use many different peer pressure strategies to try to get the main character to try the pizza and in return, the main character uses many different strategies to stand up to the pressure. Julia Cook has written another great story to help children!" - Dolly, Amazon
