The wind rocked the little village long ago, blowing out every fire and leaving the people with no way to cook their food or keep warm. All they could do was hope for the arrival of the legendary Fire Walker to bring heat and light back to them.

For one brave child, however, the sight of a falling star and a special message from a firefly encourage a daring search to find the fire and help the people.

With the assured storytelling of Shezza Ansloos and the compelling drama of Sheldon Dawson’s paintings, The Fire Walker blends the magical power of myth and the fearlessness of a child’s imagination.

Shezza Ansloos has a love for all things creative. She is a storyteller, a Canadian award-winning singer/songwriter, a poet and a painter. She cares deeply about young people, and is an advocate for at-risk youth in her counselling work in alternative education. Winnipeg, Manitoba is her home and native land where she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her well-styled shih-Tzu toy poodle, Luna.

The Fire Walker is her second book for Pemmican Publications. Her first, I Loved Her, was published in 2010.

Sheldon Dawson balances a successful career as a freelance illustrator with a longstanding commitment to produce and exhibit fine art that explores his own personal vision. His paintings have been exhibited in several art galleries in Winnipeg and Calgary, and he has illustrated many books for Pemmican Publications. In addition to children’s books, his illustrative work includes a variety of other genres: historical, educational and sci-fi/fantasy. To see more of his work, please visit
