Description

This book is the long-awaited third and final volume of Vladimir J. Kaye's Dictionary of Ukrainian Canadian Biography. The working copy, completed in 1965, has remained unpublished for over half a century. It is now issued with added indexes of surnames and ancestral place names. This volume, covering 295 settlers who arrived in what is now Saskatchewan between 1892 and 1904, complements the volumes previously issued for Manitoba (1975) and Alberta (1984). Kaye's trilogy is the result of the painstaking and expert collation of many sources, some of which remain unpublished and largely unknown to this day. As the historian W. L. Morton wrote of the first volume, "The reader will be impressed ... with the monumental character of Dr. Kaye's work, and its utility as a tool for future research." The Eastern European Genealogical Society, a registered non-profit organization based in Winnipeg for almost 30 years, is proud to publish this book, which represents a major addition to the genealogical literature of Saskatchewan. It has been made possible by the efforts of many volunteers for whom the Society is indebted.
