In the Freud Archives
This nonfiction narrative is the study of an unlikely, tragi-comic encounter between three men: K. R. Eissler, a scholar of psychoanalysis; Jeffrey Moussaief Masson, a 42-year-old Sanskrit scholar turned psychoanalyst turned virulent anti-Freudian; and Peter Swales, a mischievous 35-year-old former assistant to the Rolling Stones and self-taught Freud scholar. The early history of psychoanalysis provides the turgid background for Eissler and Masson's falling-out.
