About this Author
EDITH NEWLIN CHASE was born in 1905 and raised as a Quaker on an Indiana farm, where she milked cows every day. She wrote The New Baby Calf as a poem in the late '30s, and said: "It came to me clearly and rapidly as I worked at housekeeping, and if I remember right, it required no revision." It was first published in a book for pre-school children in 1945, where, many years later, it was discovered by Scholastic's then director of publishing. Ms. Chase passed away in 2004.
BARBARA REID is a critically acclaimed Canadian author and illustrator, well known to children, parents, and teachers alike for her timeless stories and vibrant Plasticine illustrations. Barb has received every major Canadian children's book award, including the Governor General's Award. She was also named to the Order of Ontario in 2012. Barbara lives in Toronto, Ontario.
