What could you be if you were a polygon? As this book shows, you would have at least three straight sides and could be a kite, a star, or a stop sign.
STARRED REVIEW! These whimsical and entertaining math concept picture books serve as good classroom read-alouds or for individual reading for young students. Each book begins with the title line, "If you were a..." and continues with simple phrases illustrating the math concept, such as "if you were a triangle...you could be seen on the street (cat on a motorcycle passing a yield sign), in a band (cat holding a triangle), or at the kitchen table (cat holding a slice of watermelon). The beautiful watercolor and gouache illustrations of animals are vibrantly colored and bring the text, which flows from page-to-page, to life, making these books top picks for reading aloud, especially when used to introduce or extend a mathematics unit. Each book concludes with an activity, a glossary, an index, and a few additional resources. Highly Recommended. [Editor's Note: Other topics covered, but not reviewed include additional shapes, fractions, numbers and number signs, and measurements.]
