But, to survive and compete effectively in the vast and increasingly complex world market, owners must be armed with a thorough knowledge of import/export strategies and operations.

This book takes novice and seasoned business owners alike on the journey from domestic to international. Owners will learn valuable skill sets, including how to:

o Understand the basics of international trade compliance

o Identify and promote products using trade leads
o Appraise distribution and shipping options
o Recognize documentation and insurance requirements

Starting and Managing an Import/Export Business takes you through these topics and more in a stepwise approach that will give you the confidence to enter the global marketplace without fear of the unknown.

About this Author

Tekle B Sebhatu has been sharing his expertise in international business for more than two decades. With a Ph.D. in International Trade, Sebhatu has taught international business courses for the University of California Berkeley, Extension and Strayer University. He has offered his own successful import/export certificate program, and he was an adjunct faculty member at Umpqua Community College.

Sebhatu's experience in the global trade industry is not only theoretical, though. He has been a consultant and trainer for BAYTRADE, the Bay Area World Trade Center, the California Center for International Trade Development in Northern California.

Today, Sebhatu continues to provide import/export workshops for the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), a national organization of over 10,000 volunteers. He also maintains a mentorship role for small and medium-sized companies who are breaking into international trade. His background in academia, coupled with his many years in mentorship and leadership roles with individuals from all over the world have helped him realize the link between academic theories and practical experiences, leading him to write Starting and Managing an Import/Export Business.
