Dusty Trails to Divided Highways tells the story of the intercity bus industry in Manitoba from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. From Winnipeg, Brandon, Dauphin, Flin Flon, Thompson and Steinbach to Virden, Killarney, Morden, Swan River, Gimli and West Hawk Lake bus travel offered reliable and inexpensive motion (and sometimes a one way ticket out) to anyone needing a ride or with the desire to explore the open road and the world at large. early styled buses running over rough, rugged and dusty trails. The story later arrives at iconic company names like Greyhound, Grey Goose, and Manitoba Motor Transit, together with a host of smaller locally based firms, that emerged to dominate kilometer after kilometer of smooth asphalt covering this great province. Modern luxurious motor coaches served bus depots and bus stops located at just about every point on the Manitoba Highway map.
The first edition of this book was first published in 2006. This soft cover second edition contains 35% more information and is filled with many photographs (both historical and contemporary), maps and stories. the book is 92 pages and the inside of the book is full colour throughout.
About the Authors
Alex Regiec, Dennis Cavanagh and David Wyatt have been long time friends who share a passion for public transportation. They are actively invloved in the Manitoba Transit Heritage Association, a membership-based, not-for-profit museum and registered charity whose volunteers restore, drive, and display a large collection of authentic vintage buses for public education and enjoyment.
