Description

An official Hockey Hall of Fame book.

The definitive book on the history of the Stanley Cup and the championship teams that have won it.

Between the 1892-93 Amateur Hockey Association season and the 2017-18 NHL season, the Stanley Cup has been awarded 146 times in 126 seasons to 30 different franchises.

In Stanley Cup, Eric Zweig details every single championship, including rosters, stats, and stories from the seasons and the playoffs.

Over 200 photographs and incredibly unique statistical tables round out the season-by-season championship breakdown. Find answers for such questions as:

  • How many Stanley Cup finals were decided in Game 7?
  • How many Stanley Cup finals were decided in overtime?
  • Who has scored a Stanley Cup-winning goal and then went on to win a Cup as a coach?
  • How many players have won the Stanley Cup with three or more teams?
  • Who had the longest career without winning the Stanley Cup?
  • What are the most goals by one team in a Stanley Cup final game?
  • and many more.

Chart the course of hockey history and revisit the dynasties and Cinderella stories of each and every decade. From Bobby Baun's overtime winner on a broken leg to stave off elimination in the 1964 Stanley Cup final to Brett Hull's infamous "no goal" in Buffalo to seal the 1999 final, Stanley Cup is full of magic moments and incredible achievements.

Reviews

The book does not simply list the winners. It goes into detail of each series, along with the highlights of every game, along with scoring and the leaders in that series. As well every player is listed on the winning team, making this not only a must-read for hockey lovers but those who care about statistics and the like... With hundreds of vintage photos, along with little known trivia about teams and players, if you live for the Stanley Cup then you absolutely need to add this consummate book to your collection.

[Review of previous hardcover edition:] Zweig has done a magnificent job documenting in a handsome coffee table giant the years since 1892 when Lord Stanley donated the original cup to be awarded as a challenge trophy. Heavily illustrated, chock-full of statistics and complete with fascinating sidebars, Stanley Cup is arranged from the most recent victory by the Los Angeles Kings to that day in February 1893 when the Montreal hockey club won the first annual match. In between those dates, Zweig packs enough full-colour photographs, biographies and Cup trivia to last until some agreement is reached in the NHL.

[Review of previous hardcover edition:] A wealth of information not only about the Stanley Cup but about the various teams and players who have faced the challenge to win the cup over the last 120 years. It deals with the evolution that has taken place in the composition of the various hockey leagues which led to the formation of the National Hockey League... Will be thoroughly enjoyed by all hockey fans and...a welcome addition to both school and public libraries.

[Review of previous hardcover edition:] True connoisseurs of the game will enjoy seeing every Cup winner noted, along with recaps, statistics, and more than 200 photos vintage and more recent... a publication that will give you a total respect for the ultimate part of hockey supremacy.

[Review of previous hardcover edition:] Of all [the] big format histories, this new one might be the best yet. Not only does Zweig give the reader the annual highlights from the competition... he traces the ever-changing formats, tells many historic tales and gets inside the game by re-purposing a number of great first-person accounts... He selects the right photos to go with each season ... you can't go wrong with this one.
