West coast author Carrie Mac hits at the heart of what it’s like to be a teenager today. Not so far from this precarious stage herself, Carrie’s first novel, The Beckoners won awards for its chilling take on high school bullying. She’s a versatile author, writing both fast paced, contemporary hi-lo books (Crushed, Charmed, Pain and Wastings)and complex, literary fantasy (The Triskelia Trilogy) set in the future, the first of which, The Droughtlanders was nominated as a Best Book for Young Adults by the American Library Association. Carrie currently lives in Pemberton, north of Vancouver, where she has worked as a paramedic in the downtown east side. She loves to write short stories and screenplays, and has worked delightedly with the teen book clubs at Vancouver’s Kidsbooks, striving to maintain the integrity of her fantasy world. An observer and a listener, like all great authors, Mac’s concern is to tell a good story, and if the awards and attention coming her way are any indication, she has succeeded.
