Teddy Bear's Picnic
|
A picture-book version of the 1907 song by John Bratton. Here, comfortable-looking toy bears plan and execute their outing with great thoroughness and enthusiasm. The illustrations progress using the half-page device made familiar by John Goodall, but these cutouts are large and horizontal, as well as irregular in shape, with contours that vary with each double-page spread. The pictures are on heavier stock than Alexandra Day's paintings for the song (Green Tiger, 1983), but both have appeal. This book contains the melody--without chord notation--on the endpapers, whereas the earlier version does not.
