The Canada Council for the Arts has announced the winners of this year's Governor General's Literary Awards. The prizes are awarded to the finest in Canadian fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, children's literature (text and illustration) and translation. A partial list of winners follows. Miriam Toews Wins Writers' Trust Prize

Congratulations to Miriam Toews, whose novel The Flying Troutmans has won the 2008 Rogers Writers' Trust Prize for Fiction. She was named the winner of the $25,000 prize at a gala dinner in Toronto on Monday night.

The 11th annual Canadian Culinary Book Award winners were presented on November 7, opening day of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. The awards recognize three categories of books: cookbooks; special interest books about both food and beverage; and books about Canadian food culture.
