One of the earliest cyberpunk authors, yet one who is often overlooked, Williams crosses a boundary by bringing cyberpunk mentality to the military SF reader. Taking place in a nebulously distant future where corporations control everything we see, do, and say, this novel is one of the more uplifting pieces within cyberpunk, offering a future where one person can still make a difference and where a life can remain at odds with the surroundings and still have a reasonably happy ending. This is a reissue of a book from the mid-80s that I am particularly happy to see back in print.
