The Canada Council for the Arts has announced the winners of this year's Governor General's Literary Awards. The prizes are awarded to the finest in Canadian fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, children's literature (text and illustration) and translation. A partial list of winners follows. Congratulations to , whose novel The Flying Troutmans has won the 2008 Rogers Writers' Trust Prize for Fiction. She was named the winner of the $25,000 prize at a gala dinner in Toronto on Monday night.

It's difficult to discuss Canadian sci fi these days without mentioning . From her home in Orillia, Ontario, Julie has turned out success after success, first in non-fiction, where she has an amazing string of science-related texts, and more recently, in science fiction, where her carefully researched and lovingly detailed aliens and alien worlds have earned her a solid place in the hearts of traditional science fiction fans worldwide.

The 11th annual winners were presented on November 7, opening day of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. The awards recognize three categories of books: cookbooks; special interest books about both food and beverage; and books about Canadian food culture.
