Bunk 9's Guide to Growing Up by Adah Nuchi (From a Two Thumbs Up Reviewer)

by McNally Robinson - Saturday, Feb 24, 2018 at 9:13pm

Welcome to Bunk 9—and a new girl-powered puberty book girls will want to read.

Based on the lively conceit that it’s written by nine older girls at a fictional summer camp who share their collective been-there, done-that experiences, Bunk 9’s Guide to Growing Up is a puberty book with a twist, an entertaining, up-to-date, supportive guide that covers the head-to-toe changes that young girls go through as they grow up. Since it is written in the voices of different girls, reading it is like listening to your best friend or older sister giving no-nonsense information, advice, and tips on menstruation, breasts, hygiene, health and nutrition, boys, and all the complicated feelings that go along with these changes. Filled with callouts, doodles, and margin notes, it’s a book that’s gentle enough for a third grader and thorough enough for a middle schooler, and it’s vetted by a pediatrician.

Bunk 9's Guide to Growing Up is a spectacular read and has loads of tricks (that actually work!) This is an extremely handy guide for girls of all ages. The characters have different personalities that include bookworms, jocks, chefs, late bloomers, early birds and they are incredibly relatable. I would definitely recommend this to all girls.

The Royal Rabbits of London by Santa Montefiore & Simon Sebag Montefiore (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

by McNally Robinson - Saturday, Feb 03, 2018 at 3:32pm

This book starts with a rabbit named Shylo. He has very annoying brothers and sisters who always tease him. Shylo wants to show his brothers and sisters that he is not a weakling. One day Shylo was walking in the forest and he tumbled down a hill. Shylo heard voices and he quickly jumped into a hole where he then saw rats! He heard the rats talking about how they had found a way to the queen’s bedroom! He quickly went to Horatio. Horatio told him to go to London and go to the royal family to warn them. So Shylo went to London and went to the royal family. The royal family sent 2 guards with him to defeat the ratzis. Do you think they will make it or do you think they will fail? If you want to find out read the book The Royal rabbits of London!

I would give this book 5 stars because it was very interesting, adventurous, and fun. My favorite part was when the rabbits and rats were fighting.

The Traitor's Game by Jennifer A Nielsen (from a Two Thumbs Up reviewer)

by McNally Robinson - Friday, Feb 02, 2018 at 8:53pm

Kestra Dallisor has been exiled from Highwyn for 3 years, but she is called back by her father, who serves Endrick the powerful and cruel leader of Antora, who also has very powerful magic. On her way back, she gets captured by the Coracks, a rebellion that wants to destroy Endrick. They want her to get the Olden Blade for them, the only weapon that can destroy Lord Endrick. They take Kestra’s servants and threaten to kill them if she doesn’t obey. The Coracks give her 2 Coracks as servants in exchange, Simon and Trina. The Coracks want the blade so that they can choose an Infidante that will claim the blade and kill Lord Endrick. The Infidante will be Halderian and also will choose the new ruler of Antora. Will Kestra get the Olden Blade for the Coracks? Or will she refuse to give it to them? Find out by reading The Traitor’s Game!!

I liked this book because it was full of adventure and mystery. But at some parts I didn’t really want to keep reading because it was boring. If you don’t really like deaths I suggest you don’t read this book because there were a lot of deaths in it. But at some parts it was really interesting and I wanted to keep reading. I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.
