Rose Tremain Wins 2008 Orange Prize

by Ryan McBride - Thursday, Jun 05, 2008 at 9:20am

Rose Tremain has won this year's Orange Prize for her novel The Road Home.

Although Tremain is one of Britain's most celebrated novelists, she has never won a major literary prize until now.

In an interview with the Guardian, she said

I was a bit upset not to have been longlisted for the Man Booker. In this country, prizes are like bumps in the road, sleeping policemen. You can't pretend they are not there, and anyone who says they don't care about them is being disingenuous. So to have won one of the major prizes feels great.
