Formatting & Files: How to prepare your book for submission
In order to upload your book to the Espresso Book Machine, we will require two files, both in .PDF (Portable Document Format) format:
- One .PDF for the BOOK BLOCK (the interior pages of your book).
- And another .PDF for the COVER (including the front cover, spine, and back cover).
Each of your files needs to be formatted to meet specific printing requirements. Please follow the link below to download your own copy of the McNally Robinson Do-It-Yourself Formatting Guide, which includes everything you need to know about setting up your files for proper printing. It also includes tips on how to format your document to make it look like a professionally designed book.

Check out our Pre-Submission Checklist to make sure that haven't missed any part of the process (the Checklist is also included at the end of the DIY Guide).
Keep the guide close at hand, there for quick and easy reference, in perfect-bound paperback form. The book contains the same content as the PDF available above, however many people find it easier to reference a book in their hand rather than a file on the computer screen. Having the book prevents you from having to switch continuously between windows.
You can order the DIY Formatting Guide here on our website (and yes, we do ship anywhere in the world!), or stop by the store and find the book near the Espresso Book Machine. The price is a humble $5.99.
