Integrating Indigenous Literature Workshop with Dr. Helen Armstrong

Saturday May 06 2017 10:00 am, Saskatoon, Travel Alcove

The Workshop is a free event, and takes place from 10:00 to 11:30am. All Materials provided. The books Dr. Armstrong uses in the Workshop will be available for purchase.

Dr. Helen Armstrong, Professor Emerita at Brandon University, will lead a workshop on Integrating Indigenous Literature for children, their parents and teachers in an interactive teaching demonstration, illustrating integration of Indigenous Literature to meet school curricular outcomes. This event extends McNally Robinson's work to honour and support the Calls for Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

With the support of a federal SSHRC grant, Dr. Armstrong worked with Manitoba First Nations and public schools to support the integration of community knowledge-keepers, indigenous literature, and other resources into schools in order to meet curricular outcomes. Part of that work involved the creation of an Aboriginal Curriculum Initiatives Centre.
