Winnipeg launch of To Be the Floral Emblem: Provincial and Territorial Flowers in Poetry.

This is a commemorative booklet celebrating Canada's 150th Anniversary, 1867-2017, poetically expressed through the personalities of Canada's thirteen floral emblems. The cross country journey begins with British Columbia's Pacific Dogwood, moving eastward and stepping northward to include the northern territories, ending in Prince Edward Island, the birthplace of the Canadian celebration. Each flower is different, each poem is different, and each region has distinction. Flower blossoms are revealed in detail, and also shown in their natural environment. The Native peoples, as first responders to these lands, are recognized throughout. "Bits of History" accompany each floral poem, and collectively highlight some of the historical moments of Canada.

Joseph J Gajdosik immigrated to Canada as a child with his parents from Czechoslovakia in 1937. Initially settling in rural Manitoba, they moved to Winnipeg where Joseph completed High School, attended St Paul's College, and graduated from the University of Manitoba. He was employed by the St Boniface School Division, where he taught Biology and other subjects at Windsor Park Collegiate. Upon retirement, he ran his own home improvement business for several years. Other activities now include gardening, writing and spending time with family and grandchildren.
