Reading & Signing Clearwater (Coteau Books) with special guests Ashley Maclennan and Katherena Vermette.

Claire Sullivan’s move to Northern Manitoba is made easier when she meets Jeff, the quiet loner next door. They spend countless hours wandering the wilderness, forging a fast and firm friendship.

But underneath the deceptive calm of her new life, darkness lurks. Claire’s sister is slipping under the waves of depression, while Jeff has his own troubles to deal with at home. Two shocking acts of violence converge, forcing Claire and Jeff apart, until the time comes when, together, they must face the past.

Clearwater is a story of friendship and family, and the place where the two meet.

Kim McCullough is a writer and teacher from Calgary. She will complete her MFA in Creative Writing (opt-res) at UBC in 2014. Clearwater is her first novel.

Ashley MacLennan is the real life alter ego to genre fiction author Sierra Dean. When she’s not busy writing about vampire slaying anti-heroes or the romantic lives of baseball players, she indulges in different creative pursuits. In what little free time she has when she’s not writing, Ashley can typically be found wandering around local comic shops or out hiking. Between getting degrees in English and History, she is hard at work on her first work of literary fiction, a Bildungsroman about a young woman whose love for a famous dead actor begins to influence the choices she makes in her daily life.

Katherena Vermette is a Métis writer of poetry, fiction and children's literature. Her first book, North End Love Songs won a Governor General Literary Award for Poetry, and the Lena Chartrand Award for activism in poetry. Her upcoming project, The Seven Teachings Stories is a children’s picture book series. Her poetry and fiction have been widely published and anthologized. Vermette lives in Winnipeg.
