Folk/Acoustic
A folkster and poet at heart, uses music as a means of giving the abstract a body, if only to indulge her own lurking existential fears. She started out singing and playing piano in church bands before spending some formative time as keyboardist for local musician Ray Whitton. Since then, Fern has been focusing on her own material- playing local open mics and coffee shops to get performance experience. Some highlights include winning runner-up in Canada Music Week's 2009 Music Writing competition (Category D) for "Ravens," as well as participating in Saskatoon's Duo competition in late 2011. Perhaps these musical shenanigans have been encouraged by a disproportionate caffeine:blood ratio, but nevertheless provide her with a great joy that a job in retail cannot. www.wearefernmusic.bandcamp.com
