Rex Deverell was born in Toronto in 1941 and raised in Orillia, Ontario. He holds both arts and theology degrees. In 1971, Rex began to write plays at first for Saskatchewan’s Globe Theatre school company and became the Globe’s first long term Playwright-in-Residence. His work has been anthologized, translated, produced internationally, and turned into operas. He has written cabaret, satire, docu-drama, and personal, poetic work like Drift, and Boiler Room Suite perhaps his most produced play. He has never lost his interest in writing for young audiences. In 1990 he relocated to Ontario. He is currently an associate artist with Mixed Company Theatre. His plays, Les Miserable Old Guys and Wild Magic, were hits in the Winnipeg Fringe. (Drift and Boiler Room Suite have seen productions by Winnipeg theatre Companies.)
