Winner of numerous awards and prizes, Vincent Ho is widely recognized as one of the most exciting composers of his generation. His works have been hailed for their profound expressiveness and textural beauty that has audiences talking about with great enthusiasm. Since his appointment to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra as composer-in-residence, Vincent has presented a number of large-scale works that have generated much excitement and critical praise.
Recent compositions including Arctic Symphony (described as "a beautiful work that evokes the Far North in a very special way", and "a mature and atmospheric work that firmly establishes Ho among North American composers of note") and the percussion concerto The Shaman, composed specially for Dame Evelyn Glennie and presented by Orchestras across the country, have helped to cement this reputation.
For this year's presentation, Ho will discuss his new work City Suites: Concerto for Cello and Orchestra written for Shauna Rolston, which will be premiered in this year's New Music Festival.
