Louise Penny -- Book Launch

Tuesday Sep 27 2011 8:00 pm, Winnipeg, Grant Park in Prairie Ink Restaurant

Winnipeg launch of A Trick of the Light: A Chief Inspector Gamache Novel (MacMillan).

This event is co-presented by CBC Manitoba and hosted by Kerän Sanders of the Weekend Morning Show on CBC Radio One 89.3 FM/990 AM.

Louise Penny won the New Blood Dagger, Arthur Ellis, Barry, Anthony, and Dilys awards for her first novel, Still Life, which was also named one of five Mystery/Crime Novels of the Decade by Deadly Pleasures. She went on to win the Agatha Award three years in a row, as well as the Anthony Award for the Best Crime Novel for The Brutal Telling and a second Dilys Award for Bury Your Dead. A Rule Against Murder, The Brutal Telling, and Bury Your Dead were all New York Times bestsellers. A former Winnipeg resident where she hosted a popular CBC afternoon show, Louise now lives in a small village south of Montreal. Visit her online here.

“Hearts are broken,” Lillian Dyson carefully underlined in a book. “Sweet relationships are dead.” But now Lillian herself is dead. Found among the bleeding hearts and lilacs of Clara Morrow’s garden in Three Pines, shattering the celebrations of Clara’s solo show at the famed Musée in Montreal. Chief Inspector Gamache, the head of homicide at the Sûreté du Québec, is called to the tiny Quebec village and there he finds the art world gathered, and with it a world of shading and nuance, a world of shadow and light. Where nothing is as it seems. Behind every smile there lurks a sneer. Inside every sweet relationship there hides a broken heart. And even when facts are slowly exposed, it is no longer clear to Gamache and his team if what they’ve found is the truth, or simply a trick of the light.
