David Fincher to Direct Black Hole by Chadwick Ginther - Wednesday, Feb 20, 2008 at 6:37pm

David Fincher, acclaimed director of among other films, Fight Club and Zodiac has been attached to direct the live action movie based on Charles Burns' Harvey Award winning graphic novel Black Hole.

Originally serialized over ten years by Kitchen Sink Press and then Fantagraphics Books, Black Hole was finally collected in hardcover and now trade paperback by Pantheon Books.

Black Hole features a group of suburban Seattle teens in the 1970's who catch The Bug, an STD that causes physical mutations, some subtle, some grotesque. The alienated teens face prejudice and exile.

In a Time of Treason By David Keck by Chadwick Ginther - Wednesday, Jan 30, 2008 at 7:56pm

With his novels In the Eye of Heaven, and the forthcoming In a Time of Treason, David Keck has delved deeply into myth, folklore and history to create Errest the Old, a world both strikingly familiar, yet tantalizingly strange. I have stated before that In a Time of Treason was one of my most anticipated books of 2008, and it didn't disappoint.

When Keck writes about knights and tournaments you can smell the armour, feel the horses thunder across the lists and you shudder with the impact of lance on shield. The quieter moments of the novel are equally powerful, as Durand Col must choose between staying true to his Lord Lamoric, or his love, Lamoric's young wife Deorwen.

The Automatic Detective by A. Lee Martinez by Chadwick Ginther - Friday, Nov 02, 2007 at 11:43am

A. Lee Martinez is at his best when he ignores the "rules". In combining a pulp science fiction setting with crime noir sensibility, he has crafted his strongest fiction since his blisteringly good debut Gil's All Fright Diner.

Gil's was such a strong debut that In the Company of Ogres and The Nameless Witch, both fine and entertaining stories in their own rights, suffered under the expectations, and desires of fans to see more of Duke and Earl,Gil's' werewolf & vampire leads.

David Keck on Fame and Obscurity by Chadwick Ginther - Friday, Dec 21, 2007 at 11:41am

Fantasy author (and former Winnipegger) David Keck was ambushed by Jeff Vandemeer on the subject of fame and obscurity.

Keck's second novel, In a Time of Treason will be out in February, and he will be returning to McNally Robinson's Grant Park location to launch the book in March. The reading for David's first novel, In the Eye of Heaven was fantastic, so I encourage Winnipeg fantasy fans to make it down for this one too.
