2009 Edgar Awards Announced

The Mystery Writers of America have released the winners of the 2009 Edgar Awards. In the category of Best Young Adult Novel, the winner was John Green's Paper Towns, and Tony Abbot's The Postcard won for Best Juvenile Novel.

An Interview with Holly Phillips

In the Palace of Repose, Holly Phillips' first collection of short stories, saw her nominated for two World Fantasy Awards. As well, the book won the 2006 Sunburst Award, celebrating Canadian literature of the fantastic. Her second novel, The Engine's Child, is a delicious dark blend of science fiction and fantasy, faith and science, technology and magic. Holly was kind enough to take the time to answer some questions for our readers.

Nebula and Tiptree Awards Announced

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America have released the names of the winners of the annual Nebula Awards. Ursula K. Le Guin's YA novel, Powers, won in the Best Novel category. A list of all winners may be found on the SFWA's website here.

The James Tiptree Jr. Award, which honours science fiction and fantasy writing that pushes the boundary of gender roles, was given this year to The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness and Filter House by Nisi Shawl. The award was created in 1991, and named after the pen-name of Alice Sheldon, whose short fiction was notable for such themes.

Shirley Jackson Award Nominees Announced

The Shirley Jackson Awards--named after the author of The Lottery, one of the best known short stories in the English language--are now in their second year. The award was created to honour writers of horror, psychological suspense and dark fantasy. This year's shortlists have just been released in the categories of Best Novel, Novella, Novellette, Short Story, Collection and Anthology.
