Clever, rebellious, the best archer in England, and... a girl? Robin McKinley's adaptation of Robin Hood presents a refreshingly reluctant hero who finds his opposite in the lovely Marian.

Shadow Thieves, the first book in the Cronus Chronicles details the adventures of two cousins, Charlotte and Zee, who must journey into Hades' Underworld in order to save their friends from a mysterious illness. Humourous, dry and slightly sarcastic, full of clever allusions and great plot twists, Shadow Thieves will interest fans of Greek mythology, soccer, kittens, and grandmothers. However, this book even creeped me out at times, so kids who scare easily should probably steer clear of this one.
