With total advances (not including film rights) approaching the two million-dollar mark, has rocked the publishing world with his debut novel The Gargoyle.
Growing up in Pinawa, home of Atomic Energy of Canada's former Whiteshell Laboratories, he traveled the world before moving back to Winnipeg in 2008 to finish what Sara Gruen (author of Water for Elephants) describes as "a hypnotic, horrifying, astonishing novel."
Andrew kindly took the time to answer some questions for our website readers. The full interview follows.

UK author has been awarded the 2008 Samuel Johnson Prize for her book The Suspicions of Mr Whicher. The book revisits the murder of a three-year-old boy in Victorian England and a Scotland Yard detective's efforts to solve the case.
The prize, worth $60,000, is awarded annually to the best work of non-fiction.

De Niro's Game, a novel by Canadian novelist , has won the 13th annual International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. The award is the world's richest literary prize ($160,000 CDN)and honors a single work of fiction written in English.

Winners of the 20th annual Lambda Literary Awards were announced recently. The awards are sponsored by the Lambda Literary Foundation, whose mission is to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender literature.
According to the press release,
Winners were chosen by a jury of judges who come from all walks of literary life: journalists, authors, booksellers, librarians, playwrights, illustrators. In all, 85 judges participated in the selection of winners from the pool of 463 books that were nominated by 190 publishers.

has won this year's Orange Prize for her novel The Road Home.
Although Tremain is one of Britain's most celebrated novelists, she has never won a major literary prize until now.
In an interview with the Guardian, she said
I was a bit upset not to have been longlisted for the Man Booker. In this country, prizes are like bumps in the road, sleeping policemen. You can't pretend they are not there, and anyone who says they don't care about them is being disingenuous. So to have won one of the major prizes feels great.

's Book of Negroes has won for Best Overall Book.
's A Golden Age has won for Best First Book.
The prize was established in 1987 to "encourage and reward the upsurge of new Commonwealth fiction and ensure that works of merit reach a wider audience outside their country of origin", according to the award's website.
