George R.R. Martin's fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, has finally been green lit for production by HBO.

At current writing, the network has only committed to filming the pilot episode. The intention is for each book of Martin's planned seven book cycle to fuel one season of the television series. Four books have been released thus far, A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords and A Feast for Crows. The fifth, nearing completion, is entitled A Dance with Dragons.
