In 1892 New York, young apprentice photographer Horace Carpentine is delighted to finally take his first photographic image. However, Horace is horrified upon developing the image for in it he sees a ghost - the ghost of a girl who died under horrible circumstances....
As Horace develops more photographs of the ghostly Eleanora, she becomes more and more real, and more and more dangerous as she seeks revenge on those who mistreated her.
The Seer of Shadows is rich in period detail and language and offers an exciting glimpse into early photography. I very much enjoyed this historical mystery, and would recommend it to mature tweens who enjoy a bit of a scare. It is probably not a good bedtime read-aloud, unless you want the listener to be awake all night!
